we are

like the wandering planets
we
are
like the falling leaves
we
are
like the melting snowflakes
we
are
like the retreating shadow
and then
we glimpse
what
we
can be
something more
than what
we
are

The Cemetery from Robin Willis on Vimeo.

This is one of the scenes from the short film "Watler Ate a Peanut" - based on a one-page story I wrote and brought to vibrant life by the artistry and vision of Robin Willis. Also, please note that www.vimeo.com is a very refreshing departure from YouTube.

she

suddenly by my side

in tears

tired of being in pain

me

silently holding her

my head

humming like rain

on the hard

deep soil

we

living in slow motion

our lives

spinning like

the earth

upon which

we

cling

remnants of the empire

Before they were British, they were just a bunch of heathens, conquered by the Romans and the Gauls and the Saxons. Then they turned the tables and eventually forged an empire that required tonic water because of malaria - because of mosquitoes - because of exploring and tromping around in swampy, steamy armpits of the earth - because somebody had to run everything and who else but the British? And tonic water was so bitter but they needed the quinine to ward of the parasites clinging to the proboscis of the dastardly disease-carrying insect, so, gin and tonic was born.

Welcome to the new world.

Parking Lot Mechanics

There has got to be a joke (to be made) about the guys who buy auto parts at Kmart and then proceed to make the repairs right there in the parking lot.
